Aristolochia fimbriata
Pipevine

Want to attract butterflies? Pipevine could be the answer. It's a host plant for Pipe Vine and Swallowtail butters. It's also a fascinating-looking plant that looks great in a hanging basket or as a groundcover, extending to 6 feet. The "pipe"-shaped flowers that appear under theh leaves in summer give it added appeal, though the foliage is great by itself. Keep it out of direct sunlight and everyone will be happy. The foliage dies back in winter, and you'll need to protect the plant from freezes, but it returns in spring. Prefers well-drained soil. -- Rick R.
