Bubblegum Mint
Bubblegum Mint, also known as Hummingbird Mint, has everything most people look for in a flowering perennial: Lovely blooms, striking in raspberry; a fascinating aroma, similar to bubblegum; attractiveness to hummingbirds and butterflies; and a long blooming season. The tubular-shaped flowers can be seen summer and fall, stopping only when freezing weather arrives. After that, the plant dies down to its crown, from which it returns each year to resume its feast of flowering. Another bonus: average garden soil is fine. It's perfect as a companion for a perennial shrub, or you can pair it with other late-blooming perennials. It is cold-hardy and handles the heat with no problem as long as it gets late-afternoon shade. Children will love the bubblegum smell.
