Hesperaloe parviflora
Red Yucca, Coral Yucca
Looking for an evergreen, no-maintenance plant? Coral Yucca is hard to beat. Its long, thin leaves rise from its base and fall like an overflowing fountain. Red or coral-colored bell-shaped flowers bloom from March through October. Fibrous threads along the leaves add interest. Cut the stalks in fall for use in dried arrangements. It handles heat and cold with no problem and needs no supplemental watering once established. For a striking accent, mass five or so Coral Yuccas together so they look like one large plant. Hummingbirds like the flowers. Despite its name, Coral Yucca is not a yucca; it's a member of the lily family.
