Globe Mallow ‘Papago Pink'
Like other Globe Mallows, this quick-growing perennial is beloved by butterflies. Its loose, sprawling form isn't to everyone's taste. But its plentiful pink blooms in spring and intermittent flowering the rest of the summer is certainly welcome. This Texas and U.S. native loves sun, and doesn't need much water. Match it with other light drinkers and everyone will be happy, and your water bill will be small. My plant in the backyard was protected by a fence; it stayed evergreen this winter, but flopped over when spring arrived. Foliage isn't its best feature. The small, gray-green leaves aren't anything to crow about. Its value is for profuse flowers and attraction as a host plant for butterflies (In Dallas County, the Gray Hairstreak and Common Checkered Skipper particularly love it as a host plant).
